Next Big Futures: Black and White is a new collection of essays by academics that explores how the new literary genre of black and whiteness is a reflection of its authors.
The books aim to explain the different ways black and whites think, talk, feel and behave, but how they are different.
“We want to be open about the ways that black and non-white readers can engage with the literature, the ways in which black and White writers can explore those spaces and their representations, and the ways their narratives are influenced by them,” the editors wrote.
“The fact that black people are reading Black and Whites, and that non-black readers are reading books written by black and Whites does not mean that we’re all reading books by black people.”
The first volume in the series was published on October 23, 2017.
It was followed by a follow-up book called Black and Blue on January 10, 2018, which was followed with a second volume, Black and Brown on June 14, 2018.
“Black and Brown is not a book that is going to change the world, it’s not a story about how we can transform the world,” author and poet Jody Butler said.
“We’re not trying to tell people how to live.
It’s not about how to change history, it is about how people are able to live in the world.”
Black and Blue is the first book in the new Black and Black Brown series and will be available in paperback and ebook.
